Who is responsible

What stays on your device

Everything that describes your nights lives on your iPhone: the audio recordings, the detected events, the scores, the trends, your notes and your morning answers.

There is no sign-up, no profile and no server that receives your recordings. Audio is never uploaded for analysis. All detection and scoring runs on the device.

Microphone

Loir records audio only while a tracking session is running, and only after you have granted microphone permission. You start and stop the session yourself, or, if you enable it, an Apple Watch can start it when it detects that you are asleep.

You choose how long recordings are kept. When the retention period passes, the audio is deleted from the device; the derived numbers and your notes remain, because deleting them would silently change your history.

Apple Health

If you allow it, Loir reads sleep stages, blood oxygen, heart rate, heart rate variability, respiratory rate and wrist temperature from Apple Health for the period of the night, in order to put the sound-based analysis into context.

Loir writes one thing back: a time-in-bed sample for the session, so your night appears in Health alongside data from other apps. Health data is read on the device and is not transmitted anywhere. You can withdraw each permission at any time in the Health app.

iCloud backup

Backup is off unless you turn it on. When it is on, an archive of your sessions and recordings is written to your own private iCloud container. That container belongs to your Apple Account; we have no access to it and no ability to read it.

If you turn backup off, or sign out of iCloud, nothing further is written. Deleting the app removes the local data; the iCloud archive is removed from iCloud settings in the usual way.

Anonymous usage statistics

Loir collects a small amount of anonymous usage data — which screens are opened and whether certain flows complete — so that we can see what is broken or unused. It carries no identifier that points back to you, and it never contains audio, event data, health data or any text you have written.

You are asked about this during the first run and you can change your answer at any time in Settings. Turning it off stops collection completely; nothing is queued or sent later.

What we never do

We do not sell data. We do not share it with advertisers. There are no advertising or tracking SDKs in the app, no cookies on this website, and no cross-app or cross-site tracking of any kind.

No recording of yours is used to improve detection unless you deliberately send it to us — for example by using the share button on a session and emailing the archive. Even then it is used only for the purpose you sent it for.

This website

loirapp.com is a set of static pages hosted on Cloudflare. There are no cookies, no analytics and no JavaScript beyond a single language redirect on the root page.

Cloudflare processes the request in order to deliver the page, as any host must. Visitor request logs are not retained.

Children

Loir is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from them. Because there is no account and no server, we hold no personal data to remove; removing the app removes the data.

Your rights and how to use them

Because your data is on your own device, you exercise most rights directly: export any night as a JSON archive with its audio, export everything from Settings, or delete everything from Settings.

If you are in the EU or UK you also have rights of access, correction, erasure, restriction, objection and portability under the GDPR. Write to support@loirapp.com and we will answer, though in most cases the answer is that we hold nothing about you.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a way that affects you, the new version will be published here with a new date, and material changes will be noted in the app.
