How do I record my first night?

Open Loir, leave the phone on the bedside table within about a metre of your head, and tap Start Sleep Tracking. Keep it plugged in. In the morning, stop tracking and the night appears under Results.

Do I need an Apple Watch?

No. Snoring, breathing pauses, cough and speech detection, the night score, trends, remedies and the doctor report all work with the iPhone alone. A watch adds sleep stages, blood oxygen, heart rate, sleeping position and the option of a haptic nudge during the night.

What is SEI and is it the same as AHI?

SEI is a sound event index: breathing events heard per hour of sleep. It is not an AHI. An AHI comes from a sleep study that measures airflow, effort and oxygen directly, and it includes hypopnea, which is largely inaudible and therefore cannot be counted from sound. Loir reports SEI with that label everywhere and never presents it as a clinical index.

Can Loir tell me whether I have sleep apnea?

No, and it does not try to. Loir is not a medical device and does not diagnose anything. It can show you a pattern over weeks and produce a report that helps a clinician, but the diagnosis is theirs to make.

Where are my recordings stored?

On your iPhone. There is no account, no sign-up and no server. Nothing is uploaded for analysis. If you enable iCloud backup, the archive goes to your own private iCloud container, which only your devices can read.

Someone else sleeps in the room. Will their snoring be counted as mine?

A microphone cannot tell who made a sound, so some of it may be theirs. You can mark that you slept with a partner, listen to any clip, and mark an event as not yours — it is then removed from that night's statistics and the score is recalculated. Speech clips can be switched off entirely in settings.

How much battery and storage does a night use?

Plan on charging overnight; a full night of recording and analysis is hours of microphone and processing. Audio is compressed and a night is roughly the size of a music album. You choose how long recordings are kept; when that period passes only the audio is cleared and the numbers stay.

Why is the night score not the same as Apple's Sleep Score?

They measure different things. Apple's score is about sleep duration, regularity and interruption. Loir's score is about snoring and breathing: how long, how loud, how often, how steady. The app says so on the score itself so the two are not confused.

What does the score breakdown show?

It starts at 100 and lists every component that subtracted from it, with what was measured for each and the maximum that component can take away. No single component can push the score to zero, which is why a very bad night still shows movement between nights.

What are night sets?

A way to compare one group of nights with all the others: the nights you coughed, the nights you talked in your sleep, your loudest nights, the nights your oxygen dipped. Loir compares them on snoring, breathing, score, sleep length, oxygen and how rested you felt, and shows which factors were more common in that group.

Does the watch nudge actually work?

Loir measures it rather than assuming it. It records the sound level before and after every vibration and reports how many episodes resolved and by how many decibels on average. There is also a nightly budget so it cannot buzz all night.

What does the doctor report contain?

A PDF over 7, 15 or 30 days with the night-by-night table, the averages, your profile and marked factors, the method and its limits, and your own notes. The cover states the window you chose, how many nights were included, how many were too short to count and how many nights exist in total.

What is free and what is Premium?

Tracking, the night score, trends, the last seven sessions and three clips per night are free, along with a one-page summary report. Premium adds full history, every clip, full-night playback, the multi-day doctor report, iCloud backup and unlimited experiments.

How do I export or delete my data?

Any night can be shared as a JSON archive with its audio from the session detail screen. Settings has a full export and a delete-everything option. Nothing is kept on a server, so deleting on the device is the whole story.

Which languages does Loir support?

English, Turkish, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch and Japanese, on iPhone and Apple Watch.
